Having photographed hundreds of families over the last 18 years, most of them in Alexandria, I thought I would blog about some of my favourite spots to photograph my clients!
#1 Jones Point Lighthouse. There are so many spots in the entire walking loop that you can use!
Under the Woodrow Wilson bridge you get such beautiful light and when the sun is still too high, its a perfect spot to start the shoot before you venture off down the trail towards the lighthouse.
The lighthouse has stairs, which are perfect for family portraits, a little porch that I love for headshots, and even a white picket fence.
The wooded trail offers plenty of spots to stop for some photographs and the benches along the way help create some ‘triangles’ (photography speak.. haha!)
You can head off the trail and if the tide is low, venture down to the ‘beaches’. There are usually some felled tree trunks to use as benches and the kids love to throw pebbles into the river.
Last but not the least is using the river as a backdrop, the small little ‘hill’ by the parking lot, the wildflowers. It is a busy spot when the weather is great. Lots of people playing basketball under the bridge, or walking their dog or learning to skateboard. The trail connects to the Mount Vernon trail and you will see a lot of bikers and runners too. I never get tired of going to Jones Point. Hope to see you there sometime! Drop me a message if you would like to book a session this spring!
